I never learned how to swim

I never learned how to swim but it feels like today I’ve jumped right into the deep end of the Bloomington pool where my son and wife Christy, enjoy their time together over the Summer months.

Now today is a special day in that my son, Cooper and I will both have new experiences beginning today! The first day of kindergarten starts for Cooper and for myself, I’ll be blogging for the first time at the ripe old age of 50! I’m not a writer by the definition of the word but I believe that I might be able to do this!

Scot Simmons - Flytyngofish - Trout Fishing

What I started to pursue heavily while in my late forties was trout fishing and finding a purpose outside of parenting, being a father and a good husband. I had developed a strong need/desire to become more involved in the fly fishing industry. I was feeling the need to be part of this community and contribute on some level that could benefit others. So the ideas started to surface and I finally came to the conclusion that I wanted to build a brand that men, women and children could be proud to support.

Trout in the classroom

The Trout in the Classroom program became my focus. I could’ve seriously benefited from this program back when I was in high school. This program gives kids K-12 the opportunity to…

  • Raise trout from eggs to fry.
  • Monitor tank water quality.
  • Engage in stream habitat study.
  • Learn to appreciate water resources.
  • Begin to foster a conservation ethic.
  • Grow to understand ecosystems.

My goal is to make proper use of my ability to influence others and be a vessel to help bring more diversity to the sport of fly fishing along with assisting in the raising of funds that will help with a variety of needs for the Trout Unlimited program, Trout in the Classroom.
